Jewelry Care

How should I take care of semi-precious stones?
Semi-precious stones that are transparent are best cleaned with warm, soapy water. Opaque stones, however, may be porous, allowing them to absorb liquids and oils, so it is best to clean these stones with only a soft, dry cloth.
How should I take care of pearls?
Pearls are more fragile than gemstones and require more care. As a result, hairspray and perfume should be sprayed before putting on your jewelry because they can affect the luster of the pearl. In addition, chlorine and saltwater can also cause the surface of pearls to discolor. To maintain them, wipe the pearls with a soft, dry cloth after each wear. If the pearls continue to look dull, you may take them to a professional jeweler for a more thorough cleaning.
How should I take care of the sterling silver and gold-filled chains?
Sterling silver tends to tarnish over time, becoming dull and darker in color. Whenever possible, keep your jewelry in a plastic bag or in a closed box to delay the tarnishing process. You may also buy a silver polishing cloth and gently polish your jewelry to return the silver to its original luster.
Gold-filled chains and findings are made by bonding a layer of 10K or 14K gold to a sterling silver base through a process of heat and pressure. Gold-filled jewelry pieces have about 100 times more gold than gold-plated pieces. This type of jewelry does not tarnish nearly as much as sterling silver, but it is best to store your jewelry in a plastic bag or closed box to prevent any discoloration.
